Programming and Communications Manager
Qualifications:
• Education: Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree or advanced qualifications preferred.
• Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional and approachable demeanor.
• Creativity: Ability to think outside the box to envision new and creative programs.
• Organizational Skills: Strong time management abilities, including multitasking and prioritizing in a busy, team-oriented environment.
• Technical Proficiency: Graphic design tools are a must (Canva and similar). Skilled in Office 365, Zoom, Constant Contact (or similar), and cloud-based systems (ex: SharePoint and OneDrive). Familiarity with ShulCloud (or other CRM platforms). Excellent proofreading skills.
• Confidentiality: Capable of handling sensitive financial and personal information with discretion.
• Jewish Knowledge: Understanding of Jewish holidays, customs, and traditions is desirable.
Programming:
• Serves as lead staff person for all programs (excluding youth). Envisions, creates, and executes programs that enhance Beth Israel’s mission and values.
• Helps develop and oversee multigenerational programs. Ensures that the needs of different age cohorts and demographics are met while increasing multigenerational connections.
• Works with staff, committees, Brotherhood, Sisterhood, and volunteers to plan and execute all programs. Oversees the implementation of and compliance of programs with the use of the internal forms, RACI, and program budgets.
• Creates and maintains program budgets.
• Arranges logistics.
• Provides direction regarding room set up, cleanup, etc. Also coordinates with any vendors involved in programs.
• Works in conjunction with the Executive Director, Clergy Administrative Assistant, other staff, and volunteers to coordinate and support program logistics for all synagogue events.
• Serves as staff liaison to the Lifelong Learning Committee, Social Action Committee, and Marketing Committee. Attends all meetings of these groups.
• Assists Brotherhood and Sisterhood leadership teams to ensure their programming is relevant and to ensure that they are coordinating with the synagogue to use resources effectively.
• Coordinates with outside vendors and sites for synagogue programing.
• Assesses security needs for services and programs and works with the Executive Director to arrange for security guards as needed.
Marketing and Communications
• Develops and manages overall marketing/communications strategy and plan.
• Ensures that all events/programs are marketed effectively.
• Develops, designs, and distributes announcements, newsletters, and marketing materials for synagogue activities and events.
• Creates, maintains, and updates the synagogue website and calendar.
• Manages Beth Israel’s social media to ensure an active and engaging online presence,
• Creates and maintains templates for routine communications and coordinates publicity efforts for synagogue programs.
• Runs birthday, anniversary, and yahrzeit weekly lists to include in the newsletters and on the website.
• Sends email and USPS mail reminders to celebrants and those with yahrzeits.
Management and Administration
• Manages the synagogue calendar, coordinating with clergy and other staff as well as volunteer leadership, Brotherhood, Sisterhood, and committees to ensure that programs and meetings occur when required and without scheduling conflicts.
• Assists with technology needs on an as needed basis, including computer and other hardware, ShulCloud, other software, and databases.
• Assists with overseeing the Beth Israel kitchen. Ensures compliance with kashrut standards.
• Occasionally assists with front office administration.
Reporting Structure
• Reports to the Executive Director.
